Dream Bike, Part 3: 2001 Cannondale R1000; The Finished Build

Have you read Part 1 & Part 2 yet? Because you should to see everything that went into this project. And now it’s time to reveal the finished build.

It’s been completed for a few months and I’ve ridden it on plenty of weekend group rides. It’s fast; it’s nimble; and it looks great. I even like it more than the 2016 Specialized Roubaix I bought brand new. It was a full carbon frame with mixed 105 groupset (read: Specialized bills it as a 105 build, but they cheap out on the crank and brakes). Sure, this is a 20+ year old build with an aluminum frame, but damn does it ride and look even better than that Specialized.

It was a super fun build and I’m glad I got to put exactly what I wanted into it.

Ok enough talk. Time for bike.

There it is. Spicy Dijon.

So I know you’ve already seen the components as I was putting it together, but it wouldn’t be a proper bike photoshoot if I didn’t capture everything again on the finished build.

Remember, you can click on any pics for the full size version.

So there it is. Spicy Dijon.

I hope you enjoyed taking this cyclic journey with me. Looking forward to the next project already!

I’ve been reading about your builds for a couple of years. I thought I’d ask you if you would be interested in a one owner 1994 Cannondale Kiler V900? I’ve owned it for 31 years and its in incredible condition. I couldn’t seem to let go of it and thought you’d be the best individual I’d trust to ask. It’s been in my basement for over 20 yrs. Last serviced in 2023 for street riding only. Through the years I’ve replaced almost everything component wise but still have original bar ends, and Onza pedals.

Wow that’s right awesome of you to ask. I do love those old Cannondales, but I don’t have room in my garage for another bike nor the money for a project! I just convinced my wife to let me get an ebike to help with commute times on Black Friday, so that’s probably the most I’ll get for a while – though I am eyeballing a new single speed frame and build for street rippin’ with the bros. lol. I bet if you hit up the forums on the vintage cannondale site you can find someone who deserves that bike too!!
